Aashroy Drug De-addiction Centre (for male addicts)
Greenacres-II, By Lane No.1, Baghorbori Tiniali, Panjabari, Guwahati-781037
This is a 30-bedded residential facility with psychiatric and psychotherapeutic consultants. The main essence to recovery is the 12 Step Psycho-spiritual program. Outdoor games (Volleyball) is an added facility which is much appreciated by clients.

Aashroy Women’s Wellness Centre (for female addicts) – this is our latest initiative in response to the alarming growth in the number of women addicts in Assam and the Northeast. Located within Guwahati city, the centre set in a cottage within a large campus full of greenery and high walls for security, has the ambience which is an essential ingredient in recovery. With its office in a bamboo shed, livestock (goats and kids) grazing around and chickens the campus has a natural village atmosphere. Treatment follows the same principles as its male counterpart.

Regional Training & Research institute for Substance Abuse Prevention – Knowledge on the complex nature of substance abuse is very limited even amongst care givers, social workers, sociology students and amongst the general public. In order to have an effective counter societal response, there was a need for an institute and strategy. We have thus begun sensitization workshops in universities around Guwahati and facilitations of in-person and online certificate courses for drug de-addiction counseling and management. There is no eligibility criteria as it is our intent to make our trainings available to everyone. We often train many recovering addicts and they have become extremely effective experiential counselors.

Aashroy Drug De-addiction Centre at Gauripur, Dhubri district
Dhubri is an under-developed district bordering West Bengal and has been identified by the Narcotics Control Bureau as one of the severely affected areas of the drug abuse epidemic. There is work to be done to impact drug demand reduction in this district which has had no societal response to the rapid growth of this dreaded disease. CSAPC’s objective is to have both treatment and prevention activities to empower the community to understand the complex nature of addiction and participate in the campaign to find solutions to this challenge.

The Dhubri Project – 2022 to 2024
On April 2022 CSAPC took the decision to venture into substance abuse prevention and care projects in Dhubri district of West Assam. Dhubri, which is an under developed region and has become very vulnerable to drug abuse. Within the past few years heroin usage has spread rapidly and stealthily throughout the district as well. Even the villages have increasing numbers of addicts. Coupled with this menace sharing needles by IDUs also brought in HIV and Hep C infections.

We started a Counselling centre at Gauripur 7 kms from the district headquarter Dhubri on May 1 2022. This was followed by awareness camps in some colleges and localities. The response from affected families was shocking as there were many affected but no treatment facilities for the addicts. We looked around and soon located a residential building on the outskirts of the town. After working on the security aspects of the de-addiction centre we formally inaugurated the same on August 15, 2022. Now till date we have admitted 390 patients in the last two years.

In collaboration with the Social Welfare department we have also initiated a program in the district jail for the over 200 under trial prisoners arrested under the NDPS Act. As there are no NGOs working in this field of substance abuse in neighbouring districts we have also held awareness camps in Bongaingaon, Kokrajhar and South Salmara. Patients are also coming for help from these areas.

New Proposed Project
CSAPC Trustees also resolved to venture into a very socially relevant project which is to establish an Old Age Home or be more particular an Assisted Elder Care facility. Towards this we have had talks with Ms. Bari Kharsati a renowned educationist in Shillong, Meghalaya who is willing to provide land for the proposed elder care facility in her property at Umsning which is half way up from Guwahati to Shillong. Land of a minimum 3 acres will be provided for the proposed project. She will be part of the project also. We thus need funds for building the infrastructure and would be highly grateful if we can get assistance from CSR funds.
